Official Coin Up Partner
Hays County Food Bank provides food assistance, food education, and offers resource assistance to low-income households and those who have a temporary food emergency. Food assistance is provided through 7 weekly public food distributions, through food given to over 20 partner agencies (shelters, church and school pantries, and senior centers), and through a backpack program serving schools in the Hays CISD and Wimberley ISD. Nutrition education is taught at participating locations throughout Hays County, with locations in San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, and Dripping Springs. Cooking classes typically focus on vegetarian-based meals and include an accompanying lesson such as kitchen safety, nutrient retention, serving sizes, and cooking substitutions. The Child Nutrition Engagement Program is a 6 or 12 session program that includes a lesson geared towards children, an interactive game, and a food demonstration. The Senior Nutrition & Wellness Program is a 6 or 12 session program that includes stretching, a lesson geared towards seniors, and a food demonstration. Recently, the food bank has gained the ability to offer YourTexasBenefits.com application assistance. Individuals can now schedule office appointments or meet with a Navigator at our participating distributions to receive help with signing up for SNAP benefits, TANF cash help, healthcare, support services, and WIC food benefits.
